Superman

Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, two Jewish teenagers from Cleveland — both sons of immigrants who fled European antisemitism — invented the superhero itself. Superman is often read as an immigrant story: the refugee from a destroyed world whose Kryptonian name, Kal-El, echoes Hebrew. Action Comics #1 (1938) launched the biggest mythology of the 20th century.
