Born Ryfka Tajtelbaum to a factory owner's family in Łódź, Niuta Tajtelbaum was a courier for the Jewish Combat Organisation and for the communist Gwardia Ludowa, smuggling weapons and people in and out of the Warsaw ghetto. She was known for braiding her hair and dressing as a Polish peasant girl to walk into German offices and homes and shoot the men she found there — in 1943 she killed five in a single day. She was part of the special unit that bombed a Warsaw cinema used by German soldiers in January 1943.
The Gestapo put a bounty of 150,000 złotys on her head, caught her on 19 July 1943, tortured her and killed her. She was twenty-five.
