Manuel Blum is recognized among Jewish contributors to Technology & Engineering — Computational Complexity Theory
How & why
Born to a Jewish family in Caracas, Blum studied at MIT under Marvin Minsky and built much of the axiomatic foundation of computational complexity theory, defining machine-independent measures of the difficulty of computation. His ideas seeded modern cryptography and program checking, and he later co-created the CAPTCHA. He received the 1995 Turing Award.
