Ronald Fagin is recognized among Jewish contributors to Technology & Engineering — Founder of finite model theory (Fagin's theorem) and database theory; Gödel Prize (2014)
Fagin, from a Jewish family in Oklahoma, earned his mathematics PhD at Berkeley and spent his career at IBM Research. He founded finite model theory: Fagin's theorem proved that the complexity class NP corresponds exactly to problems expressible in existential second-order logic, linking logic, computation and database theory. He was named an IBM Fellow and received the Gödel Prize in 2014.
