Marvin Minsky is recognized among Jewish contributors to Technology & Engineering — Co-founder of artificial intelligence; Turing Award laureate.

How & why

Minsky, from a Jewish family in New York, trained as a mathematician at Harvard and Princeton and in 1959 co-founded the MIT Artificial Intelligence Laboratory with John McCarthy, making him one of the founding fathers of the field. He built early learning machines and, in books such as 'The Society of Mind', argued that intelligence emerges from many simple interacting agents. He received the Turing Award in 1969, computing's highest honor.
