Aron Bielski is recognized among Israeli contributors to Heroes of Israel — Youngest of the four Bielski brothers whose partisan camp in the Belarusian forest saved some 1,200 Jews, and the last of them to die.
Aron Bielski was thirteen when his older brothers Tuvia, Asael and Zus took to the Naliboki forest and built the largest armed Jewish rescue operation of the war — a camp that fought the Germans and, by rule, turned nobody away, so that some 1,200 Jews came out of the forest alive. Aron was a member of the group and, as its youngest surviving witness, one of the main sources for Peter Duffy's history of it. He emigrated to Palestine after the war, settled in the United States in 1954 as Aron Bell, and was the last of the four brothers when he died in 2025.
The record also carries a late shadow: in 2007 he and his wife were charged in Florida over the affairs of an elderly neighbour, and the charges were dropped in 2008 after they repaid over $260,000.
