Frank Blaichman is recognized among Israeli contributors to Heroes of Israel — Jewish partisan commander in the Lublin district of Poland, whose memoir 'Rather Die Fighting' recorded the armed resistance of Polish Jews.
Frank Blaichman was sixteen when Germany invaded Poland. He refused to wear the star, traded goods across the countryside without permits, and when his town's Jews were deported in October 1942 he slipped away to a farm and then to the forest, where he became one of the youngest commanders of an armed Jewish partisan group in the Lublin district — a unit that fought Germans and protected Jews hiding in the woods. He emigrated to the United States, became a builder, and campaigned for the memory of the Jewish partisans, publishing 'Rather Die Fighting' in 2009.
His card should also record what is contested: he headed the Prison and Camps Department of the communist security office in Kielce after the war, and his account of those years has been disputed by Polish historians.
