Valentine Telegdi is recognized among Jewish contributors to Science & Medicine — Physicist; parity violation and precision particle experiments
Telegdi, a physicist born to a Jewish family in Budapest who fled across Europe before the war, became a master of precision particle experiments. In 1957 he independently confirmed the violation of parity (mirror symmetry) in the weak interaction, a landmark of modern physics. He worked at the University of Chicago and ETH Zurich and shared the 1991 Wolf Prize in Physics.
