Johann Rosenhain is recognized among Jewish contributors to Science & Medicine — Theory of hyperelliptic and theta functions
Rosenhain was a German mathematician who, in a single prize-winning memoir crowned by the Paris Academy in 1851, developed the theory of hyperelliptic and theta functions of two variables, introducing sixteen such theta functions and advancing the inversion problem posed by Jacobi. Though he published almost nothing else, this work was significant. He was of Jewish descent.
