Saharon Shelah is recognized among Jewish contributors to Science & Medicine — Set theory and model theory; classification and PCF theory
Shelah, an Israeli mathematician born in Jerusalem, revolutionised model theory with his classification (stability) theory, sorting first-order theories by how complex their models can be, and reshaped set theory with PCF theory on cardinal arithmetic. Astonishingly prolific, he has published over a thousand papers. He received the Wolf Prize in Mathematics in 2001.
