How & why

János Starker was a Hungarian-American cellist regarded as one of the greatest of the twentieth century, renowned for his flawless technique and his classic recording of Bach's cello suites, and a Grammy Award winner. He taught for decades at Indiana University, shaping generations of cellists. He was Jewish, and survived internment during the Holocaust, in which two of his brothers were killed.
