Matt Haimovitz is an Israeli-born cellist known for pairing the classical repertoire with adventurous programming — performing Bach in rock clubs and commissioning new works — and for a prolific recording career. He is Jewish, born in Bat Yam, Israel, and raised in the United States, where he studied with Leonard Rose at Juilliard. He is also a longtime professor at McGill University in Montreal.
