Maya Beiser is an Israeli-American cellist known as a pioneering solo artist who has commissioned and premiered dozens of new works, fusing classical technique with rock, world music and multimedia performance. A founding member of the Bang on a Can All-Stars, she has redefined the cello's role in contemporary music. She is Jewish, raised on a kibbutz in Israel.
