How & why

Immanuel Estermann was a German-born physicist known for his lifelong collaboration with Otto Stern on molecular beam experiments in the 1920s and 1930s. Together with Stern and Otto Robert Frisch he first measured the magnetic moment of the proton, a landmark in quantum physics. Estermann was Jewish; he emigrated after the Nazi rise to power, taught at Carnegie Mellon, and later became a professor at the Technion in Israel.
