How & why

Immanuel Estermann was a physicist whose lifelong collaboration with Otto Stern pioneered the molecular-beam method in the 1920s; with Stern and Otto Frisch he first measured the magnetic moment of the proton. Born in Berlin, he grew up in Jerusalem in a Zionist family, later taught at Carnegie Mellon and the Technion. He was Jewish.
