David Yudin was a Soviet mathematician who, with Arkadi Nemirovski, developed the ellipsoid method for convex optimization in the 1970s — later famous for yielding the first polynomial-time algorithm for linear programming — and co-founded the mirror-descent method. He was Jewish.
