How & why

Theodore von Kármán was a Hungarian-American physicist and aerospace engineer whose work on aerodynamics, including the Kármán vortex street and supersonic flight, laid the foundations of modern astronautics. He co-founded NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory and helped launch American rocketry. He was born into a Jewish family in Budapest.
