Steven Orszag was an American mathematician who co-founded modern computational fluid dynamics, achieving the first successful computer simulations of three-dimensional turbulent flows and, with David Gottlieb, systematizing spectral methods for solving partial differential equations. He held professorships at MIT, Princeton and Yale and received the Otto Laporte Award in 1991. His family was Jewish, of Hungarian origin.
