Robert Schapire is recognized among Jewish contributors to Technology & Engineering — Co-inventor of AdaBoost and the theory of boosting in machine learning; Gödel Prize (2003)
Schapire, an American computer scientist identified in Jewish biographical sources as of Jewish background, answered a theoretical question by proving that many 'weak' classifiers, each only slightly better than chance, can be combined into a strong one. With Yoav Freund he turned this into AdaBoost, one of the most influential and widely used machine-learning algorithms. They shared the Gödel Prize in 2003.
