Dwork co-invented differential privacy, the rigorous mathematical standard that lets organisations learn from data while provably protecting each individual; it is now used by census bureaus and technology companies worldwide, and she also helped create modern cryptographic proof-of-work. She is a professor at Harvard and received the National Medal of Science in 2025. She comes from a Jewish family — daughter of the mathematician Bernard Dwork and sister of the Holocaust historian Debórah Dwork.
