Philip Wolfe is recognized among Jewish contributors to Technology & Engineering — Co-created the Frank-Wolfe algorithm of nonlinear optimization; von Neumann Theory Prize (1992)
Wolfe was an American mathematician and one of the founders of convex optimization and mathematical programming, best known for co-creating the Frank-Wolfe algorithm for nonlinear optimization with Marguerite Frank, and the Dantzig-Wolfe decomposition method with George Dantzig; he received the von Neumann Theory Prize in 1992. He spent much of his career at IBM's Thomas J. Watson Research Center. Widely available biographies document his mathematics but do not record a Jewish identity; he appears on a subject roster of Jewish von Neumann Theory Prize recipients.
