Peter S. Beagle

Peter Soyer Beagle was born in New York in 1939 and is Jewish. He published his first novel, A Fine and Private Place, at twenty-one, and in 1968 The Last Unicorn, which Locus readers later voted one of the finest fantasy novels ever written and which he adapted himself for the 1982 animated film. He co-wrote the screenplay of Ralph Bakshi's 1978 Lord of the Rings and wrote the "Sarek" episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation. His novelette "Two Hearts", a coda to The Last Unicorn, won the Hugo Award in 2006 and the Nebula in 2007; he received the World Fantasy Award for Life Achievement in 2011 and was named a Damon Knight Memorial Grand Master in 2018.
