Biography

Moshe Shalev is recognized among Israeli contributors to Technology & Engineering — Raised Haredi in Bnei Brak, enlisted at twenty-three through the programme opening the army's technology units to ultra-Orthodox men, served thirteen years in Unit 8200 and co-founded Decart in 2023

How & why

Origins and early life

Moshe Shalev is an Israeli entrepreneur, co-founder and chief product officer of Decart. He grew up in a Haredi household in Bnei Brak and was schooled in ultra-Orthodox institutions; he married young, worked for a time in a butcher's shop and studied accounting in evening classes, and at twenty-three he enlisted through Bina Beyarok, the programme that opens the army's technology units to ultra-Orthodox men.

Work and career

He stayed thirteen years in Unit 8200, building and running large-scale artificial-intelligence infrastructure and ending as second-in-command to the head of the unit; in 2017, still serving, he co-founded the nonprofit StartAch with Dor Saban to open those same paths to others. In 2023 he registered Decart in Tel Aviv with Dean Leitersdorf, whom he had met in the unit, and a month later both were called up as reservists for months.

Decart makes artificial intelligence models run several times faster on the chips that already exist and generates video in real time; its first release, Oasis, a playable world drawn frame by frame by a model rather than a game engine, reached a million users in three days. In May 2026 the company raised three hundred million dollars at a valuation of about four billion. In August 2026 the press reported advanced talks for Anthropic to buy Decart for six to seven billion dollars; as this is written neither company has confirmed anything and nothing has been signed.
