Eliezer Yudkowsky founded the Machine Intelligence Research Institute and put the question of aligning artificial intelligence with human survival on the research map two decades before it reached governments. He wrote the rationality sequences that became the site LessWrong, the fan novel 'Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality', and co-authored 'If Anyone Builds It, Everyone Dies'. He is Jewish and was raised a Modern Orthodox Jew, and is now secular.
