Biography

Boaz Levy is recognized among Israeli contributors to Technology & Engineering — Aerospace engineer who rose from the Arrow missile-defence programme (chief engineer 1999, project head 2003-2006) to president and CEO of Israel Aerospace Industries (2020-2026) and chairman of its board (2026).

How & why

Origins and early life

Boaz Levy was born in 1961 and began his career in the Israel Air Force as a guided weapons expert; he studied at the Technion in Haifa, taking a bachelor's degree in aeronautical and space engineering and a master's in systems engineering.

Work and career

He joined Israel Aerospace Industries as an engineer on the Arrow ballistic missile defence programme, became its chief engineer in 1999 and led the project from 2003 to 2006, when Arrow 2 was brought into operational service. He then headed the Barak 8 programme from 2006 to 2010 and the air defence division from 2010, and in 2013 took charge of the Systems, Missiles and Space Group, which became the company's most profitable unit.

On 16 November 2020 the board of Israel Aerospace Industries chose him as president and chief executive, and he led the company through the wars that followed 7 October 2023, in which the Arrow system played a significant role. In 2023 Israel agreed to sell Arrow 3 to Germany, the largest defence deal in the country's history according to the Jerusalem Post, which that year ranked him with the company's chairman, Amir Peretz, twenty-first among the fifty most influential Jews in the world.

Under his leadership the company reported an order backlog above 25 billion shekels for 2024, and in May 2026 he was appointed chairman of its board of directors. No source states his Jewish identity in so many words: the professional biographies of an Israeli defence engineer have no reason to mention it. He is here under the Israeli presumption the site adopted on 7 September 2026 — a Hebrew given name and surname, a life in Israel, service in the Israel Air Force and the leadership of a state-owned Israeli company — which is a presumption and not a declaration, and which any contrary source overturns.
