Naor is an Israeli Jewish cryptographer, a professor at the Weizmann Institute who earned his doctorate at Berkeley under Manuel Blum. A foundational figure in modern cryptography, he initiated the study of chosen-ciphertext security and non-malleable cryptography, co-invented visual cryptography (with Adi Shamir), and proposed the idea of automated human-verification tests that led to CAPTCHA. He shared the 2014 Gödel Prize for his work, which secures much of today's digital communication.
