How & why

Vardi pioneered the application of mathematical logic to computer science, from database theory to the automated verification of hardware and software. Born in Haifa to Hungarian Holocaust-survivor parents, he became a University Professor at Rice University and won the Gödel and Knuth prizes. His methods are used to verify the correctness of real-world computing systems.
