Michael Ghil

Ghil is a mathematician and physicist who is a founder of theoretical climate dynamics, applying dynamical-systems theory to climate variability and pioneering data assimilation methods. He has held chairs at UCLA and the École Normale Supérieure in Paris. Born during the Nazi occupation of Budapest, he was hidden from deportations as a child and later grew up in Israel; he is Jewish.
