How & why

Karl Alexander Müller was a Swiss physicist who, with Georg Bednorz at IBM Zurich, discovered high-temperature superconductivity in ceramic oxides in 1986, winning the 1987 Nobel Prize in Physics after the shortest wait between discovery and award. The finding overturned assumptions about the limits of superconductivity. His mother was Jewish.
