Joseph Soloveitchik is recognized among Jewish contributors to Philosophy & Social Sciences — Orthodox rabbi and Jewish philosopher, author of 'Halakhic Man'
Soloveitchik was one of the most influential Orthodox rabbis and Jewish philosophers of the twentieth century, ordaining thousands of rabbis over decades at Yeshiva University and shaping Modern Orthodoxy in America. Descended from the Brisk rabbinic dynasty and trained in philosophy at the University of Berlin, he was a deeply observant Jew whose classic works 'Halakhic Man' and 'The Lonely Man of Faith' brought existentialist thought into dialogue with Jewish law. He is universally known as 'the Rav.'
