Franz Rosenzweig was a German-Jewish religious philosopher whose major work 'The Star of Redemption' (1921) recast the relationship between God, world and humanity and became a landmark of modern Jewish thought. Having nearly converted to Christianity, he returned to Judaism and co-founded the Frankfurt Lehrhaus for adult Jewish learning, and with Martin Buber began a celebrated German translation of the Hebrew Bible. He was a Jew.
