Lindenstrauss was an Israeli mathematician at the Hebrew University, a leading figure in Banach space theory; the Johnson–Lindenstrauss lemma, on low-distortion embeddings of points in high dimensions, is central to modern data science. He was a Jewish Israeli and father of Fields medalist Elon Lindenstrauss.
