Biography

How & why

Isaac Larian was born to an Iranian Jewish family in Kashan on 28 March 1954; the family moved to Tehran when he was four, and his father kept a small textile shop where Larian started work as a boy. He came to the United States with a few hundred dollars, took a degree at Cal State Los Angeles and waited tables, then began importing electronics before turning to toys. MGA Entertainment, the company he founded and still runs, became the largest privately owned toy company in the world: Bratz took a large share of the fashion-doll market from Barbie in the 2000s, and L.O.L. Surprise! was among the best-selling toys in the world after 2017. He was Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year for consumer products in 2004.
