How & why
Guralnik was a theoretical physicist who in 1964, with C. R. Hagen and Tom Kibble, co-developed the mechanism of spontaneous symmetry breaking that gives elementary particles their mass — the theory later confirmed by the discovery of the Higgs boson. He spent most of his career at Brown University. He came from a Jewish family.
