Alfred Tarski is recognized among Jewish contributors to Technology & Engineering — Foundational logician; theory of truth and decidability.
Tarski was one of the greatest logicians of the 20th century, giving the modern formal definition of truth in his semantic theory and doing foundational work on decidability, model theory and set theory. He was born Alfred Teitelbaum into a Polish Jewish family and, though he converted to Catholicism as a young man, he remained of Jewish origin and lost relatives in the Holocaust. He emigrated to the United States in 1939 and built the influential Berkeley school of logic.
