Biography

Alexander Khinchin is recognized among Jewish contributors to Technology & Engineering — Co-established the Wiener-Khinchin theorem in signal theory.

How & why

Aleksandr Khinchin was a Soviet mathematician who helped found modern probability theory (the law of the iterated logarithm, stationary processes) and, independently of Norbert Wiener, established the Wiener–Khinchin theorem relating a signal's autocorrelation to its power spectrum — foundational for signal processing. He was born into a Jewish family in Kondrovo.
