Abraham bar Hiyya was a Jewish mathematician, astronomer and philosopher in Catalonia whose Hebrew treatises — notably the 'Hibbur ha-Meshihah ve-ha-Tishboret' — were among the first to transmit Greco-Arabic geometry and algebra to European scholars, and a Latin translation influenced Fibonacci. He was a Sephardic Jew and a pioneer of Hebrew scientific vocabulary.
