Zvi Hashin

Hashin was, for five decades, the world's leading authority on the micromechanics of composite materials; with Shmuel Shtrikman he derived the celebrated 'Hashin–Shtrikman bounds' on composite properties, and he won the Israel Prize (2007) and the Benjamin Franklin Medal (2012). Born to a Jewish family in the Free City of Danzig (now Gdańsk), he built his career in Israel, founding the solid mechanics department at Tel Aviv University. He died in Haifa.
