How & why
A child prodigy from a Jewish family in Kharkiv, Drinfeld introduced quantum groups and contributed foundational ideas to the geometric Langlands program while still young. His achievements earned him the Fields Medal in 1990; he has since worked at the University of Chicago. He is Jewish.
