Vito Volterra is recognized among Jewish contributors to Science & Medicine — Mathematician who co-created the Lotka-Volterra equations describing predator-prey dynamics.
Vito Volterra was an Italian mathematician and physicist who made major contributions to functional analysis and integral equations and, independently of Alfred Lotka, formulated the Lotka–Volterra equations describing predator–prey population dynamics. He later refused to swear the Fascist loyalty oath and was expelled from Italian academic life. He was Jewish, born to a Jewish family in Ancona.
