Rolf Landauer is recognized among Jewish contributors to Technology & Engineering — Established the thermodynamics of computation (Landauer's principle).
Landauer was an IBM physicist who established that erasing a bit of information has an unavoidable minimum energy cost, a result now known as Landauer's principle that links information theory to thermodynamics. His insight opened the study of the physical limits of computation and of reversible computing. Born to a Jewish family in Germany, he fled Nazi persecution and emigrated to the United States.
