Rava is recognized among Jewish contributors to Historical & Religious Figures — Babylonian Amora and head of the academy at Mahoza; central to Talmudic law
Rava (Abba ben Joseph bar Hama) was a Babylonian amora and one of the most influential sages of the Talmud, heading the academy at Mahoza. His legal debates with Abaye run throughout the Babylonian Talmud, and in almost all of them the law follows Rava's ruling. He was a central figure of rabbinic Judaism whose reasoning shaped Jewish law for centuries.
