Peretz Rosenberg was born in transit while his parents were on their way from Poland to the Land of Israel, grew up in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, and joined the Haganah at sixteen, where he became an expert in wireless. He was one of the first of the Yishuv's parachutists: after paratrooper training in Egypt he was dropped into Montenegro in May 1943 under the code name 'Corporal Rose' and served as radio operator to the British mission at Tito's headquarters, opening the wireless link between the partisans and the Allies — while under instruction from the Jewish Agency to find out what had happened to the Jews of Yugoslavia.
After the war he built and ran the Haganah's clandestine radio network, and later invented a series of agricultural water-saving devices.
