Paul Sigler

Sigler, an American structural biologist listed among Jewish biomedical scientists, used X-ray crystallography to reveal the atomic structures of key regulatory proteins, including the trp repressor and phospholipase A2, showing how they recognize DNA and lipids. Trained as a physician before turning to molecular biophysics at Cambridge and Chicago, he spent his most productive years at Yale and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. He died suddenly of a heart attack in 2000 while walking to his laboratory.
