Osvaldo Golijov is recognized among Jewish contributors to Arts & Literature — Classical composer
Golijov was born in La Plata to an Eastern European Jewish immigrant family, grew up steeped in classical, Jewish liturgical and Latin American music, and later studied in Israel and the United States. He became one of the most performed living composers, best known for 'La Pasión según San Marcos' and the opera 'Ainadamar'; his music openly draws on klezmer and Jewish tradition. He has taught for decades at the College of the Holy Cross.
