Ori Goshen is recognized among Israeli contributors to Technology & Engineering — Co-founder (2017) and chief executive of AI21 Labs, the Tel Aviv company behind the Wordtune writing assistant and the Jurassic and Jamba language models
Origins and early life
Ori Goshen grew up in Kfar Saba, the youngest in a family of electrical engineers, and got his first computer in 1990, at the age of four.
Work and career
By thirteen he was working for a computer-repair company and by sixteen ran a small web-design business of his own, before serving in the Intelligence Corps of the Israeli army, in Unit 8200. In 2007 he joined Fring, an Israeli start-up for internet calls on mobile phones, and in 2009 he founded his first company, Crowdx, whose first product was the mobile application Tawkon; it later moved into network analytics and was sold to another Israeli firm.
In November 2017 he founded AI21 Labs in Tel Aviv with Yoav Shoham and Amnon Shashua, to build artificial intelligence that reads and writes language. Its first product, the writing assistant Wordtune, came out in October 2020, followed in August 2021 by the Jurassic-1 language model and in March 2024 by Jamba, an open model of hybrid design. In August 2023, with Goshen as co-chief executive alongside Shoham, the company raised 155 million dollars from investors including Google and Nvidia, at a valuation of 1.4 billion dollars.
That year the Jerusalem Post named him among its fifty most influential Jews and called AI21 Labs the only company in Israel training and serving large language models at scale. In July 2026 Shashua announced that he was leaving the company, which Goshen now leads as chief executive, with Shoham as chairman. No source states his Jewish identity in so many words, but an Israeli engineer's biography has little reason to mention it.
He is here under the Israeli presumption the site adopted on 7 September 2026 and extended on 15 October 2026 — a Hebrew given name, a life in Israel and a strong attested tie, here his service in Unit 8200 and the founding of Israeli companies — which is a presumption and not a declaration, and which any contrary source overturns.
