Son of Robert Karp, a Jewish pediatrician, and Leah Jaynes Karp, an African-American artist, Alex Karp took a law degree at Stanford and a doctorate in social theory in Frankfurt before co-founding Palantir Technologies in 2003 with Peter Thiel. As chief executive he built the data-analysis platforms used by Western intelligence, defense and industry, and has been outspoken in defending Western democracies — and Israel — in the software he will and won't sell.
