Obadiah ben Jacob Sforno was an Italian rabbi, physician and biblical commentator of the Renaissance whose commentary on the Torah blended rational, plain-sense exegesis with humanist learning and remains widely studied. He also taught Hebrew to the German humanist Johannes Reuchlin. He was a Jewish scholar and rabbinic authority.
