How & why

Moses Narboni (Moses ben Joshua of Narbonne) was a Jewish philosopher and physician of Provençal-Catalan Jewry and one of the foremost medieval Averroist thinkers. He wrote influential commentaries on Averroes and a major commentary on Maimonides' 'Guide for the Perplexed', defending a rationalist, naturalist reading of Jewish philosophy. He was an observant Jew steeped in biblical and rabbinic literature who fled anti-Jewish violence during the Black Death.
