Known correctly as Nachmanides (Moses ben Nachman, the Ramban), he was a medieval Catalan rabbi, Talmudist, philosopher, kabbalist and physician, among the greatest of Jewish biblical and Talmudic commentators, who defended Judaism at the 1263 Disputation of Barcelona and later settled in the Land of Israel, helping revive its Jewish community. He was Jewish.
